welcome

For lack of a better term, I am calling this my blog. Really, it’s where I plan to share news and information, my own content, case studies and probably some random musings from time to time. To be honest, I’m not sure what it will become. I am fortunate to work in an industry that is exciting and ever-changing so hopefully I’ll be able to provide a good story or two.

Despite some challenges and difficult years - recessions, wildfires and pandemic - I feel fortunate to have worked in the California wine industry for over a decade. I’ve spent most of my career with both heels and muddy vineyard shoes under my desk. My daily work is varied, my commutes have been picturesque , my car is always dirty and I have not run out of wine in 12 years. Running low? Sure. Out? Never.

Wine business is a symphony of multiple vocations that often conflict easier than they harmonize. Elements of agriculture, artistry, heavy production, chemistry, hospitality, sales strategy and creative positioning all must exist with a common goal of delivering a fermented fruit drink that people will enjoy and form an emotional bond with - despite its quality and value being as subjective as art.

Also, it’s alcohol (a common ingredient in good stories); and it’s a business that attracts passionate, complex and sometimes eccentric people from all over the world.

All this is to say that I find what I do fascinating and hope you do too.

Cheers!
